I am not gonna lie: I am pretty heart-broken that summer is now behind us, and putting on a loose dress and some strappy sandals is not a functional outfit anymore. I do think I am handling the shorter days a lot better than I did last year, which could be due to the fact that we’ve been having a remarkably sunny October in Germany. But sunny or cloudy, the days are getting shorter, and the time is changing this weekend (how RUDE). So what better way to cheer ourselves up than with some good old fall fashion?
Now, in an attempt to be a bit kinder to our planet I haven’t done much shopping this season: two pairs of pants and black leather boots. But I did take out my fall clothing from under the bed, and it’s always so much fun to discover those items you had already forgotten about. So today I thought I would share with you some of what have been my fall staples so far, and how I think I will be wearing them for the rest of the season.
Sweater + Jeans
I know, I know… I am not really reinventing the wheel here… but honestly, if you are looking for avant-gard, fashion-forward outfits, you are in the wrong blog. This is realistically the combination I wear the most during the fall, and one that I perfect season after season. Lately I have been loving a mock neck, a rolled sleeve, some golden jewelery and a french tuck (how queer eye of me). For my jeans they must be high-waisted and I like them quite tight: if not skinny, definitely slim. Pair it with some mid-heeled boots and you got yourself my uniform.
2. Oversize Outerwear
I always try to have two coats (other than my trusty down coat for when it’s -10 degrees – thank you Germany) one more on the black side and one more on the brown side. And lately, I have been loving wearing them kinda masculine and oversize. They fit enough layers underneath that I can wear them into the winter, and for the really cold months I am thinking of buying a thermal vest as an extra layer of warmth.
3. Monochrome Looks
My favourite way to desguise that I am wearing the same sweater+jeans combo every single day, is to go for a monochromatic look. All black is the obvious choice, but all beige is also quite easy to find in any wardrobe, and I am working on a all brown look for this fall aswell. I do struggle with the shoes a bit, because I don’t own enough pairs to perfectly match the colors of my outfits, but when you get them right, they can make you look so tall and slender!
4. Patterned Skirts
As you have seen in the pictures above, most of my clothing is pretty neutral, and midi skirts is where I have been liking to incorporate a bit of texture. Leopard print is a favorite of mine, but also florals or a bold colour work and make it seem like I put way more effort into my outfit than I actually did. I own enough plain white or black shirts, t-shirts and sweaters to make several combinations of the same formula. When winter comes, I add thick tights and knee high boots, and the look is still season appropriate.
And there you have it, now you can basically predict what I will wear any given day of the week. Are you as predictable as I am, or do you have a more colorful wardrobe?
